Got this on the side of my dad's shed. He claims to have bought it for $20.00. Working on restoring it over like a two year period. Seems to be a 1960 model. I am working on confirming this. If you have info on this year and so forth, please elaborate. I do have two ads from Western Auto that show my bicycle clearly in the ad. Unfortuanelty no year on the paper ad from Western Auto Store.

Your right about the age - you can tell by the smaller tank. I restored one almost just like this one. If you end up sand blasting it, make sure you trace the logo on the tank so you can get a decal made. Also, it would be nice if you could find an original chain guard.

Aboslutely on the chainguard. I am looking and searching. I don't think I will decal it up, it appears to be painted on and i will get it custom painted again. I have taken very detailed pics and before doing the sandblasting, I am going to try some rust remover...like metal rescue or something. It leaves the apint alone and attacks only the rust. If that fails, then sandblast. Thank you for your comment.

Noticed ur name. I sold a j4a when I picked up a j4e to restore. Good luck with your bike.

Am having restored a 1959 Western Flyer Bicycle. Is there a place to get the logos painted. How do you get that lighting on the front done or a replica. Help.
Trying to complete the project for a 60th birthday present in October.

I bought a Western Flyer in 1960 from Western Auto that looked like this. I was 10. I had a paper route and paid the Western Auto in Harvard, Illinois a total of $1.25 a week. I paid $60 for the bike if I'm not mistaken. I could be wrong on the price. It was over 50 years ago. Eventually, I took the tank off, got some highriser handle bars and a banana seat. Wish I had not done that but kids are kids and it was the early 60's by then.
