Brass Star And Crescent Trinket Box

This is a trinket box that I got from my mother a while ago, but she doesn't remember how or when she got it, But I do think it's quite old.

As you can see the trinket box is adorned with a Star and Crescent symbol which is best known for the symbol for Islam. It is also the main feature on the Turkish national flag. The Box has also been adorned with abstract flower patterns. Unfortunately There is no makers mark on it, so I know very little about it.
