I have had this interesting piece for quite some time that I picked up at a garage sale. I am trying to identify what it really is and where it is from. It has a hallmark on the bottom, but I have no idea what it means.

It stands about 8" tall and is very heavy--I think it might be pewter but do not know for sure

Any info out there would be greatly appreciated!!!

    Thanks!!

Only information I've been able to find about the hallmark is that it might be German or Swedish, those are the only countries that I found that have the letter Y in a circle. I haven't been able to find the exact hallmark though. You should probably take this as conjecture for now though, maybe someone else can confirm it. Look here for some more info: http://www.h.cx/?key=lett%20y&country=&province=&p=10

Check out this site as well for information on silver hallmarks, its a really great resource: http://www.925-1000.com/index.html
