One of three oil paintings by same artist
All three looks to be Manila Bay Sunsets scenes.

After watching an episode of the Antique Roadshow where an appraiser mentioned cleaning oil paintings with "SPIT", I decided to pull these out of storage and clean MYSELF.

So time consuming but hey its worth it and my spit is free.....lol.

1st picture- Right half cleaned left side not- what an amazing difference

    2nd picture- closeup before cleaning
    3rd picture- closeup after cleaning
4th picture- may gross you out but hey it's part of the story and goes to show how dirty the paintings are.

Will post pic's of all three paintings when done cleaning.

Rick it was one of the two past antique show airings. I have that show on record so I will look back and share.

That explains why I hadn't seen it. I'm currently 4 shows behind... I'll be looking out for it, thanks for sharing!

I had a painting of Venice from 1981 which I had given to my daughter. I showed her your post and asked her what she thought about doing it... she laughed and said that a painting as large as this - 24 x 36 - would take her forever! Aaaah youth lol.

      Rick too funny....
I'm older now and have a lot more patience now that I didn't have when I was younger.
I enjoy tedious stuff like this...but if you had asked me to do a project like this 20yrs ago I'm sure I would have reacted the same as her.

Yes, I heard about this method a long while back, and now use it to clean anything that might be fragile or iffy, I keep Q-tips handy and go at it, lol. Supposedly our saliva has the perfect Ph balance, whatever that means. I hear all masterpieces are cleaned this way. Kinda grosses me out. :/

Hey! Those who are lacking patience for cleaning a large painting may try to lick!
      ;-P
