No marks usually means no gold. It's an unusual pin - have never seen a clasp like that. Take it to a jeweler and have it tested for gold.

There IS a mark on the clasp! A close up will help. Gold for sure anyway!
The "thing" on the needle has nothing to do with your brooch!

Agree with you, Themuse, this is consistant with the security brooch clasp and the little remain of Art Nouveau influence :-D
