I just got this cute figurine at an estate sale. I thought I could find out who made her because the mark is fairly clear - it is either a K in a tulip or shield or it is a JC in a tulip or shield. However, I cannot find anything on the internet. Does anyone have any idea about her? Thanks!

Thanks, Sean68! I believe that vetraio50 is correct in identifying her maker as Margit Kovacs of Hungary. I got her on the last day of an estate sale in Arlington Heights, IL. I hesitated about getting her because I didn't recognize the mark. But, I thought she was very cute, I was very curious, and I thought that she might be Scandinavian. So, I rolled the dice and got her. I've found a few similar statuettes on Hungarian sale sites. Margit Kovacs' style varied a bit over the years. Thought, it seems as if most of her statuettes had bell-shaped bottoms with "made in Hungary" and a number stamped inside. Very few have the stamp on them like this one, but, I do believe it is a piece by Margit Kovacs because the home I found her in had a mostly mid-century style (Margit died in 1977) and had glassware from Romania and other parts of eastern Europe. Margot was something of a Hungarian national artist. There is a museum dedicated to her in her home town.

Dear Poire, unfortunately I have to tell you that this is not an original Margit Kovacs figurine. It is not in her unmistakeable style and the monogram shown is not hers at all. How can I be sure: She was my great-aunt (sister of my grandmother). Best wishes.
