    This ia a nicely carved, older, mahogany wall plaque - probably from Mexico. there are traces of paint on it, as if it were all painted brightly at one time. i found this at Urban Ore in berkeley. there was another one, but not carved as nicely as this one.

      I agree with you that it was most likely painted at one time. Some wood oil to bring out the features in the mahogany would really make it stand out.

      thanks Efes and Rick55! i oiled it and went and bought the other one too. i'll post more pics soon. from what i can figure, these are 1920s-40s.
