When I found this I thought I had finally found a Sample/Display trunk. I was excited because this trunk, at only 16” long, had all full size hardware on it. The quality and size, of the nailing, hardware, and interior was identical to the full size version. The style of the trunk was convincing as well. The “Big Black Trunk” was hugely popular, and we see them everywhere. So, it made since that a smaller, display version was made to showcase the larger brother. However, when I started to clean it, I found a small, postage size, sticker on the bottom that reads, “Style 4 Size 16” So, this was something that was available in their catalog. Yes, it could be a trunk made just for display/sample purposes, or it could have been a child's Toy, trunk. We may never know, I will let you make your own judgments. In any case it is a well made, well preserved trunk from the 1910's to 1920's.
