    Hi ...iv been searching for months to identify this item under every possible description etc ...and nothing even remotely similar comes up....does anyone know what this is and it's use?

      Looks like something one would use in the process of making spaghetti, if attached to a pasta press of some sort.

      It is a malting barley sampler. Briefly, it is plunged into a sample of barley, withdrawn, shaken to fill every hole with barley. The cutter plate snips of the top half of each grain....... the grain can then be checked for whiteness. My example is stamped "Bryan Corcoran London". Mine was made circa 1850.
