These are veterans of the 81st NYV regiment, CA 1890s.
This photo was owned by Valentine LaPoint of that regiment
who lived until 1913, and kept many keepsakes from his
days as a veteran.
Also a larger photo of other former soldiers of the same regiment perhaps CA 1910.

Yes, some do still look tough enough to fight.
In 1913 was the greatest veteran get together ever of CW veterans,
the 1913 Gettysburg reunion with many hundreds of vets there from
both sides. Once, long ago at work, my boss brought an old veteran's badge for me to see. It had 1913 on it, and was a Southern badge for a vet to wear at that reunion.
He had no idea.
