I recently purchased this at a flea market. I believe it is some kind of hand made WW2 German pin. Would appreciate any information.

I'd call it trench art-- looks to be made from a bullet.
Take a look at my items to see other examples of TRENCH ART-- it is an interesting field to collect!
Also, probably WW1 era as the Iron Cross is the type with "1914" date at the bottom.
