I have had this in our family for generations. Has anyone any idea where it is from or what the pattern is?

It appears to be Japanese Imari. The center appears to display a Phoenix bird. The blue ribbon pattern details is what leads me to say it is Japanese and not Chinese, although patterns can be duplicated. The age is hard to tell but at its bbest it could be early 20th century. As for price, I haven't a clue since there are no identification markings to tell the age, region, or artisan. Now there is a punch bowl on Invaluable.com that has the same center medallion of the Phoenix, but it was sold back in 2014 so no pricing is available. I would check out auction sites to see if you can find another. It is a beautiful piece.

i suck in japanese porcelain so i have to guess , i might talking bs to me it looks like meiiji around 1900

It could be older if it has rust spots under the glazing. You need an expert to identify the type of Cobolt blue it also seems to be heaping and piling.

well thomflyer i am glad you are an expert , what about the lack kamahi on the bottom , are we confined 1850 concerning the lacking of the spurs
is it gilded or not gilded , you imply we are committed to judge cobalt blue

do you know a combination verde gris dark green earlier than 1850 without gilding

do you we have to date the teethway model is an equivalent of the xoxorim

and have you read the analysis of the expert BOKUBA on AAF

are you unknown with color combination of Hoo birds and what is your meaning this

question have you database this because the database 3587 hits on this type of imari

      greetings Waki

excuses , i am grumpy i behaved very badly, an essence is i think , why is cobolt blue or any kind of blue the safir blue f,a be prevalent in the judgement in comparision what seems to be a 5 colour not a three color midified hoo bid circulair

sorry again i am ashamed of my behaviour

i think of the greek key pattern as coming later than xoxo which is pretty solid 1820-1860. it's a very nice bowl. late 19th/early 20th - late Meiji.

like i said you could be partly right as comparison ( meander - Mitla motif ) to xoxo but the spread of the xoxo is wide
to show the spread of the xoxo see Antique Japanese Imari Lotus Shaped Bowl, Antique Atlas example is 1880, the example is 1880 , ithink the major determinant is the 5 colour in combination with the circulair hoobirds motif

some people stated it must be earlier because of the bourgondy colour which they compare to the samban pieces but the spread is also wide

actually i totally agree with your dating, for what it is worth likes something like 1870-1880 , but i am not quite in japanese imari, s

pete ty for your decent contribution but the absence of an indication is also an indication , like the lack of almost all the kamahi and kiln spurs could be also an indication
