got it at an estate sale not sure what it is, look like it says " J B black " ?i could be reading J B wrong could be something else its hard to tell

A.K.A. a 'marking gauge'.

Marking gauge usually has a pin driven into the stock. I think the the rectangular hole in this one might suggest a cutting gauge for veneer and the like. There would be a small blade held in the hole with a wooden wedge for cutting strips of different widths.
