Hi there!
I found this beautiful chunky necklace at a car boot sale here in Paris. It is a deep red colour and looks very much like those cherry amber bakelite necklaces that are very collectible... I tested it with simichrome, but only got a light pinkish stain on my cloth, so I'm not sure this is bakelite.
Looking forward to read your comments about it! Any help will be appreciated!
The connection "inside" the bead...
How clever.
We do have a collector of plastic fantastic...
I'm sure you will hear from her.
This is lovely!
Thank you miss'! ;)
Thank you so much, Valentino97!! Yes, I saw Efesgirl's necklace (https://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/201148-massive-cherry-red-amber-bakelite-neckla?in=loved-by-Betty1978) a while ago and indeed, it is very similar to mine...
Hello Betty! You necklace is wonderful. It has the same screw as a yellow necklace of mine. I thought mine was bakelite but after time and being near more bakelite pieces I came to the conclusion it is not. Everytime I see the same type of screw and chunky screw bead I have the feeling it's not bakelite. It can still be vintage and nice though. I can't for sure say your piece is not bakelite. You need to let someone experienced hold your necklace and help you find the answer. I still think it plastic and fantastic. Hold on to it. Wear it.
Hi Elisabethan!
Thanks for your comment. I have the same feeling as you that this necklace may not be bakelite. I would love to solve the mystery about it and know what it is made of, and indeed it would help if an "expert" could handle it.
Nevermind, I like very much anyway and I do wear it!
Happy Holidays! :)
