I've been trying to research this cast iron coat hook and have found several similar repros. This isn't a repro (flathead screws are used - plus different hole layouts, japanning and old paint), but I haven't been able to find out a maker, since there are no marks visible. My first thought is Hubley, but that's just a guess. Anyone know?

It doesn't strike me as a Hubley product, it's smoother cast than most of their stuff I've seen. Hubley was pretty good about marking(Co. Name/product #) their stuff also. But I don't know for sure, that's just my impression. It's actually better appearing and more realistic than most of the Hubley cast iron animals IMO. I like it.
I agree with your observations, toyrebel. We've handled a fair amount of Hubley over the years and this is better casting and painting. It's possible that the horse head is signed on its reverse, but I would rather not disturb the screws to find out. Are there any other manufacturers you (or anyone else) can recommend for my search?

I looked on Ebay, saw similar horse head/shoe coat racks. But the horse's head wasn't as well done as this one and they were unpainted. I'm at a loss to name a manufacturer. I'm gonna keep on looking. You might try a lead test paint "pencil" you can get at Home Depot, Lowe's on the back side that goes against the wall. If it shows lead base, you could have sn idea if the era. It's smoother than most of the cast iron manufacturers that I know. I think it would have to have a "Made in ?" mark if imported also. So maybe USA.
There is a "pencil" thingy to test for lead paint ? Pull-tab beer cans & now this since I left the States ! LOL !!
