At first i thought this was bronze, but then i realized it is patinated white metal. forgot the correct name for that. looks like it may have had a cover at one time. what do you think it is/was?

... or with a lid, tobacco. Might be hard on the hands though.
Could it be spelter?
Maybe it's pinchbeck or spelter. not sure how to tell the difference.
