After posting my Rev. war belt axe, I thought that I better show my other belt axes. These two axes were used around the time of the fur traders and mountain men. They were bigger that the rifleman's axe, yet their size was kept to a minimum because, after all, these frontiersmen were in the wilderness for several months out of the year, and weight also had to be kept to a minimum.
They were used for all of their daily chores like chopping camp wood, butchering animals for food, and yes, protection from the many enemies of the wilderness.
The axes were made by hand forging the blades and fold welding them together with a wrought iron body and a steel blade insert.
You can see the fold weld on the photos and also the inserted steel blade insert. (picture #2 shows the inserted steel blade while photos #3 & #4 show the fold weld in the body.

      thanks a lot Roycroftbooksfromme1.
I have collected a good amount of items over the past 30 years. I am not so sure about a wealth of information.
I read a lot and I'm informed by such sites as Collectors Weekly and the excellent posts found there.
