Here is a beautiful impasto painting (42”x36”). I thought it resembled a Van Gogh painting and the colors are stunning. I can’t find anything on the artist but I believe it’s contemporary. The signature seems to read “Evelyn” but it’s hard to make out. If anyone knows, please let me know. Thanks for looking.

You lucky. It is a copy of a Vincent van Gogh painting with the title L’escalier d’Auvers

Thank you MP. That makes sense. I knew it had something to do with Van Gogh, but I’ve never seen that particular painting. You can really see the difference. Van Gogh wins again. Ha.

rickzog4, Evelyn would be my impression of the signature as well. :-)

Yeah, Van Gogh wins, but how many artists would 'win' in a contest with him, anyway? };-)

Here is a GIF of Van Gogh's original, alternating with a photograph of the location that inspired it:

Van Gogh would spend only three months in Auvers-sur-Oise, a small village north of Paris. Vincent moved here in 1890 after spending a year at the asylum in Saint-Rémy. Both he and his brother, Theo, agreed that it would be best if Vincent lived nearby and it was arranged that he would be put in the care of Dr. Paul Gachet.
