    I have no idea what this this is...and, as I'm sure you can concur, I'm afraid to toss it out in case its something I need...:)

    I know that, if I pull up on the flange as seen in pic 3, it's relaxes the 3 ball bearings that would allow for a tube/rod to be inserted, then releasing the flange would cause the 3 ball bearings to grab it....

    Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

      Thank you, Looker! I, too, would have never guessed! Glad I have two of them, as it seems one at each end of the clothesline would be optimal.

      Ya'll welcome in the city mars close line was on the 2nd floor and ran from the porch to a pole across the yard maybe 30 ft and would sag all the time when she hung the sheet out ...so it was my job to adjust the rope every few weeks ....smiling
