I believe that this brooch is silver plated. The craftsmanship is very nice but the pin mechanism is rather simple. I have searched quite a bit for a brooch like this but the only comparable item I found was a pendant on a Romanian site. No need to say that I was not able to read the explanation. The only word I understood was "silver" but I am not sure what the context was.
I bought the brooch because it is so different from my other filigree pieces. Most of the them are flowers (realistic and more abstract versions) and butterflies.

Beautiful ! When held upright it reminds me of the shape of Egyptian mummy :-)
