This is my 200th share, so I want to celebrate this milestone by thanking y'all for your kind comments, helpful info, and especially for sharing your cool stuff. You are great folks, that's why this is my home. The 200th share should be something special and this is special to me. It is my favorite playset of all time the Marx Blue/Gray ACW playset.
I finally pieced enough of the blue gray playset together to be presentable so I thought I'd share over a few posts.
The Blue/Gray set was first issued in '58 and stopped in '64. A Sears Heritage set was cataloged in '72.
The set was changed and new items exclusive to the set were offered. The epic set is the Giant Blue/Gray in '61, packed to the gill with stuff and the only set with the medical wagon and 45 record. The set I had was the #4658 in '62. It was a mid level set, but it was dear to me nonetheless. How I acquired it is humorous, I touch on that in another post.
In the pics note the tin litho southern mansion(Lee and Jeff Davis on the portico) , it's the big piece of set and is what people seem to remember most. Marx often had hard brown plastic terrain and structure items in their playsets, unique to the B/G was the destroyed mansion and redoubt(reinforced earth fortification). The medical wagon and 4 horse cannon/caison are in front of the mansion. I'll post some more breakdowns.

    Thanks,
    Bill

Congrats on #200. That is a fantastic playset. The ruined mansion can be used for a strong point and can even be used for WWII.

      Thanks Vinyl.
Thanks Ft. Apache, I did indeed incorporate the damaged mansion in my Battleground set. It already had a similarly destroyed slightly smaller buildimg. You could now have a similarly destroyed neighbor hood. The exploding bunker was in a lot of sets, exploding dirt looked the same in 1864 and 1944. It's a shame the redoubt has cannon balls molded in it, it would look universal. I still put my silver howitzer behind it in my Battleground. They just dug up the ancient cannon balls making the redoubt.

Kind of looks like what I remember of west Montgomery.
