Schreiner jewelry is among the most elaborate (and most expensive) costume jewelry on the market today. While I enjoy all costume jewelry companies, Schreiner creations are particularly lovely and intriguing.

This example features milk glass stones and a special trademark of Schreiner jewelry. Every second round, clear stones is set upside down. While this brooch is signed, many Schreiner creations are unsigned, and the presence of these inverted stones is a good way to identify and attribute Schreiner pieces. Sometimes, all of the stones are inverted, though sometimes, only a few are, as in this brooch.

I have a couple more items by this designer, and I look forward to sharing them. Thank you for stopping by, and enjoy!

      Lovely SCHREINER brooch!
Inverted stones were, as you say, a defining trait of Schreiner. Kramer used inverted stones too, along with Sherman ( right Phil?) What really, IMO, stands out in Schreiner jewelry are the magnificent stones they incorporated in each design. They imported them especially for the company, I believe, from Germany! Your milkglass brooch is a Henry Schreiner masterpiece!

My mistake, Schreiner, must have had your Eisenberg on the brain. Can always count on teach for the correction :)

It is a great looking brooch and even a noob like me can see it's well made.
Were the upside down stones just to vary the light? It seems a bit weird, but then, I am a noob.

Karen, you are absolutely right. When Schreiner put the stones in “upside down”, the flat part of the top of the stone reflected the color of the garment worn. The pointed part on top reflected the color! They used unfoiled stones for this reason also!
