I’m not sure how old this table is and I’m just guessing it might be a serving table with the 2 removable glass tops. If you can enlarge the back of the trays, you will see two bent pieces of round (dowels?) wood with small (old) nails holding in the glass. I believe the glass is new. I cleaned it and held it up and I might’ve detected a small wave here or there but it could very well not have been either. So, I do not think it’s original glass. Or if it is, then this would indicate but it would be much newer than I thought. That being said, I’d love for someone to tell me about glass and how to helpJudge a piece by it (or a link to reference) because that’s why I come here…to learn!

The strangest thing, though, is on the back. There is a number and what looks like a name in an oil based paint. It looks to be number 5016 and the letter N O S I ER or N O S E R seem relatively clear; but there are letters afterwards that my husband thought read DIEM but we simply don’t know.

Could this be something like an auction lot number and the winner of the bid? Would it be a lot number and the estate it came from? I don’t know and without being able to transpose these letters (for the record I’ve searched in NOSEIER & NOSER to no avail) so I put it out as a potential mystery.

If not, it would be wonderful to find what it is, what this beautiful wood may be, It may not be a rare piece but at 52, I’ve not seen one before. I’m a “babe in the woods” to learning about antiques and I find the older I get, the more immersed and passionate about history and it’s items that I become.

Thank you all for all your help and your kindness in freely sharing your expertise. I can assure you that if ever I am as knowledge, I will pass it on as freely as you have to myself and this community.

Is it a low table or what dimensions ?

The table measures 15.5" without the tray and 17.5" with the tray. So, it's a fairly low table. Thank you so much!
