1972 Casio-8U Electronic Calculator
Found this while cleaning out mom's art room. I find it quite amusing..."electronic calculator", they had to explain it to you in the 70s.
This thing is huge!
7" x 5" and 2" thick

CASIO 8U
The Casio 8U is an arithmetic calculator with 8 digits precision and algebraic logic. It has 4 functions, 17 keys, and a VFD (vacuum fluorescent) display. The power source is 5xAA. The calculator was manufactured in Japan.
Japanese Instructions
If you have a Casio 8U that is no longer working, you can first try replacing the 5xAA batteries. If that doesn't solve the problem, then you can consider replacing the calculator with a modern equivalent. We suggest the following current models as possible replacements:
Casio SL-300SV
Casio HS-8VA

Right after graduation, I was gifted my own (!) pocket calculator. I was such a special thing to have in 1976. Part of the face of the calculator, between the display screen and the numbers, was a rectangle suitable for engraving....like I said....a very special possession like a piece of jewelry.
I took it to a local jewelry story to have my name engraved on it.......went back to pick it up and they had spelled my name wrong! They offered to apply a plaque over the misspelling, but then the case would not close correctly. At my insistence, they bought me a new calculator and correctly spelled my name on it.

Not sure? Have not turned it on, batteries were dead. I will have to take a look now..
V33 - I finally got around to putting batteries in. It has the greenish/blue numbers. It does function correctly.
I had to learn to use a slide rule just before the first really expensive Texas Instruments calculators made their appearance in the classroom. They were quite an investment, especially since I was a twin. Prices finally started coming down when the Japanese calculators started showing up.
Yeah I remember watching TV and black and white. In high school I took computers they were green monitored apples. Different time then. Now my phone is the most powerful computer in the house.
