I THINK IT IS CHINESE....not sure of anything, except it is heavy and beautiful. if anyone could tell me anything about this vase, i would be so happy. i have had this vase since 1985, bought it in south korea.
Ginger jar. To me it looks modern. But we have a few experts that will tell you for sure.
the mark is qianlong signed in a strange way probably the macao style ,because the right symbol under is a deviation
but there are a lot macao style deviations and the mid symbol in the upper row is an contemporain common deviation from the older macao style
the glazing looks more PROC then Chinese republic, with other words , lets say 1970 on

well there are 3 kinds of brown, so lets limit it
the Dutch got the Dutch east India Company , and they called it djonk ( sampan
)commerce
and they thought WTF is this and they stashed it in Batavia (transit)
Batavia ware is dark brown and a very dense glazing it started late kangxi - but mostly became popular during Qianlong
and it partly modified in the cafe au lait pieces
it disappeared for a while and it got a revival in the Guangxu straits pieces around around 1880
this piece got nothing to do with Batavia
