Came across a pair of Antique Battle axes Ive had tucked away for years. I don’t even remember how I acquired them but thought they were very cool!

You don’t recall how you acquired something so odd as battle axes?
What’s the purpose of the wire wound around them? Decorative? Couldn’t really provide any strength.
Some additional information on measurements would be helpful.
From what I see, I'd would say they were purely decorative.

The axes are 3ft long and in my opinion the wire on them could possibly prevent wear on the handle where you would hold it the most often?
They could possibly be purely decorative but I would think if they were they would be more attractive they are kinda ugly lol. Cool looking but ugly!
