    i'm not quite sure what this is - a planter or a candle-holder or what? a few chips which i think i can fix up. Thick majolica-type glaze over red clay body. But it's an elephant in the style of Japanese elephants from the 18th c. I wonder where it was made and when? it seems kind of new...

      thank you Mrstyndall and vintagelamp. i realized last night that this was made in Shiwan Province in China - so it's a mudman elephant. Not very common from what i could gather.
