Any ideas on what this is? I bought it for 50 Bucks and I'm refinishing it. Any tips on the process?

I don't see anything that would indicate that this is a Martin Maier.

I just did a reverse Google photo search and the ones that popped up were Martin Maier and looked similar, but I also have learned recently that the same latches and hinges, (hardware, etc) were often used by several different companies back then, so I'm still trying to find out who manufactured this...
Either way, it's a beautiful work of art and I'm humbly trying to restore it...(it had been repainted already, I'm just trying to get it back to life)

I collect Martin Maier trunks and this is not a Maier and you are correct this hardware was used by all trunk makers at the time, your front latches are from early 1890's the lock I believe was made by the Eagle lock co. Smooth tin probably was crystallized finish, gold was the most popular color, doesn't look to have been painted, looks like someone put a clear coat on it, other then that looks original, without a makers label impossible to say who the maker was as this is a pretty common style made by hundreds of makers at the time, your trunk is from 1890's to early 1900's.
