Antique Folky Stuffed Cat

I want to try out a theory I’ve had about this guy. I believe the maker intended it to appear as if the cat was looking at a bird that was somewhere between the cat and whoever’s looking at it. Someone else once suggested the bird was in his stomach but I think the placement is off for that. Anyway, I’d greatly appreciate any info you want to share, including possible age and origin stuff, if you have any ideas. I think he’s great. Thanks for reading.
