1950 Marlin Lever Rifle Hang Tag & Receipt
I bought this recently from another member of the Marlin Forum. This is a hang tag and receipt for a 1950 Marlin Lever Rifle model 336. The outside has a description of the Rifle. On the inside are instructions for the rifle such as cleaning, assembling, etc. There's also some advertisement for Marlin shaving blades with customer survey questions on a business reply card. These hang tags would hang on all new rifles.
There's also a receipt for this 1950 Marlin Rifle. The receipt appears to be possibly from a military base store..there's no tax and there's other paperwork to support this theory. You can see the date is 1950 and the Rifle cost is $52.75 total. Someone get me a time machine! Currently used models are going for $800- $1200+ depending on condition and variation.
The 1948 - 1952 Marlin model 336 are referred to as "waffle tops" due to the machining on top.

dav2no1, Yup, that receipt does suggest military.
Aside from the lack of tax, there's a blank for "EXCHANGE STAMP," which seems like a huge tell.
Also, below the signature line is a line for grade and number, and the buyer filled those out (S/S might be Staff Sergeant?).

The lack of an actual exchange stamp, plus no check mark in the certification area suggest that either the exchange had become lax, or the requirements had changed, but the form hadn't been updated.
Nice that you have the paperwork. So many from that time saved all their receipts which is unheard of today. I am probably the worst when it comes to saving the receipts !~

Kera - Yes, there was another piece of paperwork that I didn't show. That has several different firearms and their serial numbers. It's obviously a military form to declare the firearms.
PhilD - You can see in my link, all my vintage Marlins have tags with year, model, etc. The other side has the price I paid. It's easier than trying to remember or look at every serial number again.
Shareur- Yes, I like to go back in time and buy some rifles at that price and store them in a couple 1970 LS6 Chevelles! Nothing too greedy..lol
