First time poster here! I’ve had this ring for 3+ years now and originally found it while scrolling EBay from a seller in Ukraine when searching for engagement rings to show my partner. Long story short I was absolutely smitten with this ring in particular so my partner contacted the seller and next thing I knew it arrived from Ukraine as perfect as the listing pictures. Unfortunately the seller did not know anything about this ring so I’ve been curious for years about its possible history and make-up lol. If anyone knows anything of older soviet rings I’d love to hear your thoughts on this one! I will say it turns shades of pale blue when in the right natural light conditions but my iPhone never takes color accurate pics when I try and photograph that shade :(
The writing is sooo tiny but I believe there is a P then a star with a hammer and sickle followed by what I believe is 875
The other side stamp is a symbol I can’t make out followed by what looks like a sideways 2

Welcome to CW. There looks like there are several similar rings and other variations on the market. It sounds like the stone is amethyst. The soviets had some good quality amethyst.

      Here's a similar example..not ruby..don't believe all descriptions

I initially thought it was amethyst but it has had a TON of exposure to UV lights for years and hasn’t faded or changed at all, and the sunlight and cloud conditions make it color shift to the eye, which from what I know of amethyst doesn’t seem right. :/

From your description of how the stone changes color (& the difficulty in capturing the blue in a photo), I think this is a lab grown color change sapphire. The USSR was a leader in making them & exported them widely from the 1940s on. Earlier stones were round; ovals are perhaps 1960s/70s. Check the stone using a UV light; the color change may surprise you.
