Automatic Electric Co. was the manufacturing arm of General Telephone Corporation. (GTE) Founded in 1901 the company was known as Strowger Automatic Telephone Exchange. In 1955 A.E. Co. was purchased by General Telephone & Electronic Corp. AE manufactured step by step rotary dial equipment. Most of their equipment was sold to independent telephone companies, but also for the Bell System.
