Here's a couple of neat & cheap finds from a local op shop over the last week.
First is a silver plate stand for a Victorian glass jam dish. I have a lot of these dishes & most of them are without their stands, so it was cool to find one at last. The glass dishes, in an abundance of colours & decors, are relatively easy to find, the silver plate stands, very difficult. After polishing it up, I tested it out with several glass dishes (they are all slightly different sizes, with rigarees at differing heights which affects the fit with a stand) & found a perfect fit with this lovely mauve dish with applied trailed decoration & a uranium rigaree. Happy days!
Second find was a cute punch cup or mug. This was hanging around on the shelves of orange things for about a week before I decided to stump up $3 for it. It is made from a very pale peach tinted glass with a slight iridescence (not enough to put it in the carnival glass category, I believe). There is a thumb print pattern & white enamel decoration of grape vines suggesting a use for an alcohol beverage. The applied handle is set low on the side. Could be Bohemian origin, late 19th century..

I don't see a lot at the op shops around here anymore, maybe once in 10 visits but when you pick up a piece like this it makes it all worth while, a fantastic find :)
Always a victory when you find the missing metal, congrats! In this case they look perfect together, both so delicate.
Many thanks, Bernard!
I check out my local ones pretty much most days, & when I'm out of town, whatever's nearby. Persistence (aka obsession) is rewarded!
Thanks also, Peggy!
It's a really nice stand that is light & airy in appearance. Was rather dull but scrubbed up well!
