I noticed yesterday that somebody made a rueful 'joke' post about their inability to look at any posts. They've since deleted it, so perhaps they finally were able to look at posts.

Anyway, I thought it was time to share a workaround for that "Fatal bad error."

On my Windows box, it's pretty easy. I just go up to the address window, and do a 'haircut' on the link, starting with the question mark character, e.g.:

    After a haircut:

This usually results in the post appearing instead of "Bad fatal error."

I don't have any quick workarounds for smart phones. You can still do the haircut on the link workaround, but it's more involved (because the address window typically doesn't show on a smartphone). You have to do a "share," copy the link, paste it into a text file, do the haircut in the file, and then paste the haircut link into your browser.

Anyway, I dunno how worthwhile any of this is, because for the last couple of days, I've periodically been getting a different error, a "Server Error," so things are not looking good. :-(

Good tip. Eventually, something on the CW site will break and this site will be kaput. Saying goodbye to my CW Friends in advance! Hopefully it will limp along for some time......

I wonder if this would work for the post upload error?

it was me!and it wasn't deleted because I honestly want to know what to do .On a side note it took most of the day trying to view this one single post!Glad I finally made it!

kera, it's aggravating but manageable now, and we have so much information on this site it would be a shame if they closed it. Hopefully because they have a social media presence we have alot of followers 'keeping us alive" :))

I too have been noticing the error; especially when trying to access older posts. back-page and try again usually works but can take multiple tries.

      nice while it lasted :-)

      I'm afraid you're right. :-(

      Just dunno. :-)

Yes, this forum and its posts are a wealth of information. I have learned so much from this site.

Yeah, that's what I usually do if I'm accessing the site from my smartphone.

      "nice while it lasted :-)"

      Indeed. :-(

The site has been slow and sketchy lately. I had been meaning to back up my posts for my own information..it may be too late! I'm gonna loose a lot of research.

Dude, you have your work cut out for you, considering the number of posts you have.

I should talk. While I don't have all that many posts of my own, I should probably consider making archival copies of all the vintate sewing machine posts.

      Hi again kera,
Seems many members have this nihilistic attitude of abandoning a sinking ship....my belief is, it's a convenient excuse for those members who are tired of posting and/or supporting other members posts, so they leave to try & create a panic while the site is still going. We are not Generation Beta AI, just a dedicated group of collectors sharing & appreciating each other's posts. Everything changes and evolves, nothing stays the same that's life

I'm not sure to whom you might be referring, but I see that kwqd has deleted all of his posts, and gave his reasoning for doing so.

I was initially a bit shocked, but ultimately, I can understand why he did it.

kera, do you honestly think this site will return to being problem free, most of us are coping the best we can. Not specifically blaming anyone just in general, there is too much talking the site down & not enough let's work with what we have

...and unfortunately, it appears we have less as time passes... and it appears no one is responsible for making repairs or updates...
