Over the last year or so I’ve been putting together a new body of work, starting with photos & then using these as resources for drawings. It is a slow process! Still life is a traditional genre that I haven’t worked in since my art school days back in the early 1990s, when it often came up as an exercise in drawing classes. But it is interesting how one can come full circle over the years. I started putting together some still life compositions & soon found that it led me down an interesting path.
Objects from my collection, plus other random things around the house launched a whole different tangent in my work that looked at ideas around collecting, as well as mortality & identity. This section shows a few of the preliminary photos. The actual drawings also feature text overlaid, which is mentioned in the titles below. What I’m really enjoying about this re - exploration of an old school genre is that it makes another use of my collection, & allows free rein to my gothic side. Happy Halloween, folks!
1. Sacred Horror
2. Sinister Fate
3. Occult Soirée
4. Melancholy Exit

Oh, this is GREAT!! Don't know how I missed this one.
Much appreciated, Scott!
Right up my alley!
Glad you’re enjoying them vintagelamp! I’m currently working on one which features the mannequin hand & two broken Venetian glass flowers from a chandelier, titled Unhappy Event.
