This is a really nice example of the classic Victorian “mantel vase”. It was found on eBay UK for a reasonable sum, & the seller did a first class job of packing it for the long journey.
It’s the rather rare colour that sealed the deal for me - opaline mauve. Not a shade you often see in glass & very attractive indeed.
The vase is made from a single layer of opaque mauve opaline glass, with highly detailed enamel decoration of flowers with a letter carrying bird flying above. It measures 29 cm tall, 8 cm across the top rim, & 12 cm across the base, which is marked with a tiny red number 3.
This colour is notoriously difficult to photograph, it tends to turn out a greyish colour. This is much more emphatically mauve or lilac in real life.
Most likely Bohemian origin, late 19th century.
