This was another curiosity out of my mother's/grandmother's...popular opinion has said snuff or a pin box. Someone said rainbonnet. But it's tiny, 1 1/2 L x1" front to back x 12" high!

      Hey, Angus100. :-)

I fed a copy of one of your pictures into Google Lens, and I did find one hit for a near twin (a different color scheme) that described it as storage for a rain bonnet; however, like you, I'm skeptical because of the size:

"Vintage 1950's small Metal hinged case was intended to hold a folding rain bonnet but can also be used as a pill box or a trinket box. Gold Tone metal with umbrella motif on lid with a blue background. Measures approximately 1-1/2” wide x 1”x 3/4” high."

That would be one thin rain bonnet that could be folded or crushed small enough to fit in a box that size.

A pill or trinket box seems more likely.

For a rain bonnet,,you gotta ask yourself why would
there be umbrellas on the pill bottle
