Montgomery's #3 Dogless Coil Spring Trap
5 3/16" jaw spread
Montgomery Trap Co., Mahaffey, PA
1965-1983 - "original Montgomery traps not the ones being made today"
Chain= 7' long
I love vintage animal traps. I think the mechanical aspect is what draws me to them. That and the history of survival and trade.
This is one was produced by Montgomery's. It was very rusty when I bought it. I soaked it in some old PB Blaster, then cleaned that off with some carb cleaner. I cleaned the trigger pad area so I could read the name and model. Says Montgomery's and 3...looks like in the picture there may be something below the name..I'll have to look again. There's also a 12 & 13 on the bottom side? Has a long chain attached.
This type of trap would be used for beaver, bobcat, coyote, badger and lynx.
**Dogless means there's no lever bar...think a mouse/rat snap trap..has the bar that is set to the trigger pad. This style, the trigger pad is set.
I'll link my other traps posts in the comments. Interestingly a Senior Archaelogist from British Columbia had contacted me about my Victor/Oneida post..
"..doing research for an archaeological impact assessment I am completing. We can across a Oneida Victor Animal Trap doing some survey work in the Bella Coola Valley in BC . I would like to refence your article"
So I was named in the research!

Here's my post on Victor and Oneida..the post that the Archaelogist referenced..
