The Model 100 “Chieftan” cyclometer clock was introduced by the Pennwood Numechron Co. of Pittsburg, PA in 1938. It was marketed with only minor changes until 1972 – maybe the longest production run in clock making history! This black Bakelite example has a September 1954 date stamp on the base. It stands about 3 3/4" H x 7 ½” W x 4” D.

I recieved one of your clocks for Christmas that was found at an estate sale in St George, Utah. It also has a label on the front that reads "Coke is Coca Cola" Im a Coca Cola Collector and was wondering if you could tell me more about it. I cannot find it in anything Coca Cola. Thank you for your time, I appreciate it..... Sincerely, Julie Brown

      Julie,

You find Chieftans with company names, slogans, etc. lithographed or embossed onto the celluloid lens fairly commonly. I assume companies would buy them in quantity to give away as corporate gifts, marketing items, premiums, and so on, but I really don’t know if this was an ‘enhancement’ that Pennwood-Numechron did at the factory, if they were sold to a supplier who would do the custom work to order, or if the companies would buy a bunch and have the names/slogans added themselves. My guess would be the second case, most likely. I don’t recall ever seeing another with Coca Cola on it. Could have been ordered by a local/regional distributor or some unit w/in this huge corp. and not produced in large numbers….? I would doubt that they were ever marketed to the public.

I have a Model 124 dated X70 Numechron Tymeter and yellow label on the bottom says Tymeter Electronics/ Pennwood Numechron Company/ Pittsburgh "8", Pa that my deceased father used for Station Call Reminders. I am trying to reset the time, as it is still operational. Can someone direct me to instructions for setting the time; i.e. a video, posting, brochure and even a phone number for someone that could give me directions over the phone? A YouTube Video would work as well. Thanks for your time. Dads call signs were w5NQN and K5Fm, HE HAD CONTACTED +300 COUNTRIES during his avocation as a 'ham.' You may contact me by eMail if you wish... hcwjr/ ponyhunter98@startmail.com
