Studio glass? I bought this from auction last week because it was big, brash and beautiful!! It stands 10" tall with a measurement of 23" around the widest part and a top opening of 4.5". The colours have shown up better with the flash , lots of reddish browns, pink, blue, green, with a sparkle to it! O.k. its probably from China or similar, but I do like it! Hope you do too! Any help would be appreciated though. Thank you for stopping by! The pic of the bottom has a few bruises to it, but nothing too serious. LOOKS LIKE A MONART - THANKS TO ALL!

Maximilian Boudik's Knicek 'Pandora' or the more modern 'Mimosa' by Huta Szklá Goszpodarczego Tadeusz Wrzesniak, Poland, ca. 1980?
    4. vetraio50 vetraio50, 11 years ago
      Sorry for the typo: Boudnik.

      It's not pandora glass.
    8. Greatsnowyowl Greatsnowyowl, 11 years ago
I am not sure what this is but there a lot of good indicators on this. It's some kind of Jade glass. it's bloody fantastic too. not china, not something like china.

If I'd picked this up I'd be researching earlier american art glass. even, dare I say it.. Tiffany. before you get to excited though, I research a lot of things for early American art glass. 99 percent of the time I come to a dead end. now and again I hit pay dirt. There are a lot of possibilities for this piece including more modern art glass.

what we have to go on is organic shape, button pontil, heavy wear and jade glass.

agate glass I mean. not jade. LOL
    11. Greatsnowyowl Greatsnowyowl, 11 years ago
I guess quezal also did a agate glass. quezal, trevaise and tiffany are the ones I know off the bat that used the button pontil.

vasart and monart might be the most likely I found this

      http://www.aspireauctions.com/auction30/details/4446.html

they also have button pontils it looks like. (i know very little about these companies) you should post this to the glassmessages board. there are some experts on monart and vasart there.

It's not teh polish glass that is shown there. that is a glass that has it's treatment only on the outside. it's similar to the way iridescence is applied. this glass is a paperweight form with the coloring in the glass. This one even has some aventurine. streaks With the damage on the base it frees it for actual use for flowers. I love it to bits. :)

      It's a big one too!
    16. Greatsnowyowl Greatsnowyowl, 11 years ago
yup makes it perfect for roses and tulips!
    17. Greatsnowyowl Greatsnowyowl, 11 years ago
Oh, I just caught that you're in England. Scratch everything I said about American. Considering your location and the style of this vase I'd be willing to bet now that it's monart or vasart or something along those lines.

Thank you so much Greatsnowyowl for all of your advice and information, I very much appreciate your time and effort! I will now pursue the monart and vasart line. Thank you also czechman and Londonloetzlearner for the Love! - I am really chuffed about my new vase!!

Greatsnowyowl I have looked at the Monart images and this one came up! I think it is fairly similar in shape - also has aventurine colouring in it! (lot 614) http://www.lyonandturnbull.com/asp/searchresults.asp?pg=1&ps=25&st=D&sale_no=364&subs_value=++8&index=view
I think I am there, what do you think?

yup, looks like it's most likely monart.

Thank you inky! - Thank you again GSO! I do believe this is a Monart - another journey and more information gathered! Now I am aware of yet another glass maker that I had heard of, but had not come into contact with their glass. I do love this big lump of a thing and shall be on the look out now for more!!! Ahhh this collecting lot really hooks you in - doesn't it?

yup, I've run across monart and vasart in conversation before and I've always loved the examples you see. you can't find the stuff in the western USA though. I'd love to get my hands on an example. Suppose I should start haunting the GB Ebay for one.
    27. Greatsnowyowl Greatsnowyowl, 11 years ago
I've learned something today too. I never knew that these had wafer pontils before.
    28. Justanovice Justanovice, 11 years ago
Hi GSO, there are some on GB e-bay at the moment! I would think one like mine would be quite expensive to send (weight and size)! But if I come across anything smaller I will send it to you. My e-mail address is in my profile to let me have yours!
So, now you have mentioned a wafer pontil, but earlier called it a button pontil - do they mean the same?
