I found this in the mud in the Oakland Estuary near my house. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, this port was one of the busiest in the world. Now it's very quiet and peaceful - at least on this side of it. I think that this is from Victorian times. How do i tell whether it's zinc or lead? what do you think it was used for?

Lead is heavier & softer than zinc.

thanks nldionne and walksoftly. it is kind of heavy but doesn't seem soft as lead to me. maybe the age?
