Hi, when I found this It had a felt pad on the bottom and I took it off trying to see if there were any marks to no avail. I have no idea if this is Mexican pottery or Early American. It looks pretty old and it has some pock type marks from firing. I know it is redware because it has a chip on the base and it is red underneath. The inside is the same color as the handles. If this looks familiar to anyone please let me know who, what and where.

Beautiful earthenware pot made in Tonala,Jalisco, Mexico. The craft is handed down from generation to generation, designs can date back to pre-Colombian days. This is an elegant pot. I just donated over 80 of these pots to a Mexican museum. They are American made in that anything created on this American continent is American be it from Alaska or Tierra del Fuego. this pot specifically made in the Mexican state of Jalisco.
I have watched a master craftsman in Tonala paint these designs onto a clay pot he holds in his lap. His freehand strokes with a simple dog hair brust creates amazing designs. No fancy equipment, just a steady hand holding a simple brush and look what he turns out. Wet the pot and you will smell the earth if came from.
