Strange - I picked this up years ago, but have never been able to figure out what it is. I imagine it's not worth much, but it weighs a ton!

It is similar to a Ansonia Bronze "Mercury" Figurine Clock.

This is the model called "Hermes" which, as Dave has said, is very similar to "Mercury". It's from circa 1904. Depending upon the original finish it originally retailed for somewhere between $25 and $28.75. Adjusted for inflation that would be roughly around $630 to $720.

Here's a "Hermes" which auctioned for $400 back in October of 2011: http://p2.la-img.com/289/26437/9939400_1_x.jpg

Here's a "Mercury" which recently auctioned for $300 in May of 2013:

Hope that solves your mystery. If so, please indicate "Mystery Solved" in your listing. Thanks.

Thank you epson233. Even with my narrow focus on clocks I still get stumped quite often. Fortunately there are other serious collectors like Dave around. It's always nice when we can actually help another collector or someone with an heirloom. Thanks again for you kind remarks.
