Don't know much about the set. I had a customer that was moving and I bought it from her. Each base is turned and looks to be made of Olive wood or Satin wood. Each piece has a turned and or carved bone or Ivory top. Ink has been applied for eyes and rosy cheeks. King and Queen are tall over 5 inches. Some top pieces broke and missing. Doesn't detract from the overall beauty of the set. Board is parquet satin wood over a plywood base that is hinged to hold all the pieces. The customer said they had it over 50 years. They used to travel overseas in the 50s -60s
