Horses and ponies—beautiful, noble, and fast—have been an beloved animal in American history. They were essential to Pony Express mail delivery, to cowboys rustling cattle, and they pulled the stagecoaches and wagons that helped settle the West. They also make for popular entertainment at horse races, Wild-West shows, and rodeos. Naturally, these much admired steeds would be the subjects of many a vintage postcard.
