Hi eye, sea glass is "trash" that ends up in the ocean--glass bottles and such and it breaks up and gets sanded by the waves over time and eventually ends up on the beach :) I have a picture of a piece on the sand as it would look walking the shore. Give me a minute because my daughter wants a smoothie and I will find it and post it :)

This is some of my collection, also this is sea pottery, when I pick up a piece I always wonder how that plate or pottery ends up in the ocean and some are ship wrecks and such

Sure, no problem! Ohhh yes, the jewelry is lovely! I have a coveted and rare "red piece" of sea glass that took me 4 years to find that I will eventually have made into a ring or pendant

I bought a sea glass collectors book although it's been awhile since I have looked at it, but from what I remember, red glass wasn't as mass produced as other colored glass. They suggested that a lot of the red comes from ships lights and lanterns and such

And from all the walking of beaches I have done, I can tell you that you find mostly brown, white, and green
    7. Jewels Jewels, 9 years ago
I should say frosted (white) from clear glass

      Hi Jewel

I don't live by the ocean. I live in the heart of the USA where two major rivers come together and I enjoy collecting what I call "river glass". The edges are not as rounded but are not sharp either. The pieces are quite frosted, though. I have found one piece of red glass and one piece of dark blue glass. The rest is light green, clear or turquoise. Probably most are old wine bottles. But it is neat to think they could be from a steamboat wreck or such from long ago. Keep collecting. MA

Hi MA, Ahhh very cool! Never know what you might find by the river! I was driving a couple weeks ago and there was a couple set up selling things on the side of the road. I stopped (of course) and he had a bunch of things he found by the river. I ended up buying a little Native American spear head that he found by a river! Your pieces sound cool and I heard a quote once about glass collecting that went something like this: We go searching for glass that has been through a journey, that has had it's rough edges worn smooth, and at the same time, while walking the peaceful beaches, we are smoothing our own rough edges. Something like that! And that it is trash that transforms into treasure! Thank you, happy collecting!

I love rough and tumbled glass

I love the saying!! I truly understand about "smoothing our own rough edges". I find walking the river's banks very cathartic. MA

I truly get it as well MA, we sea/river glass collectors understand ;) Julie
