I just saw ho2's post of his rooster plate. I thought ...hmm I have one like that some where around here. So here it is. I picked it up last summer. It's a fairly new piece probably 80's or so but almost identical ! -Mike-

Just looked at it PatSea. I'd take that listing with a "serious" grain of salt ! I looked up the "Made in China" mark on Gotheborg's porcelain site and it's newer to mid-century probably the 60's and no earlier than WW II era. Odd they have no pictures of the back when I looked at the ebay listing. Something very fishy there. so much fake and misrepresented Chinese porcelain on ebay nowadays.

From 1919 "CHINA" was to be replaced by "Made in China" on all Chinese export to the US. Even if "CHINA" continued to be used for a long time, we can still assume that no marks with the full text "Made in China" is from before 1919 and more likely to be from the second WW or later.
They're all variations on a theme PatSea..... That $597.00 price tag is funny too. I mean are they serious and they also have 100% feedback. Hard to figure that one out too."Cavet emptor" for sure !

Mikelv, what you said about China, is that true for Japan markings as well? I have a brown teapot, well two actually, simply stamped Japan. If my understanding is correct, this is a pre-WWII stamp?
Pretty much Katherine..usually "made in Japan" is post war and then there's "made in occupied Japan which is a narrow time period just after the war.
Gotheborg says :
During the period 1921-1941 porcelain should be marked "Japan" and roughly after 1941, marked "Made in Japan", though numerous exceptions appear to occurs.

I have invisible marking for this one. Does anyone seen these markings, mark don't show until direct bright light with some angle to look?
My plate can be Wa Lee factory made in Hong Kong or China mainland.
Wa Lee also painted japanese imported blank plates.

I have a set of these my grandfather brought back in the 40's or 50's. Are they really collectible? I have over 100 pieces, bowls, cups, tea pots, spoons, vases etc. Some pieces say Hong Kong, some say China.
I would think the older pieces would be. The one I have is fairly recent. They've been reproduced a lot over the years, but yours sound vintage and might have more value.
