I finally got this cleaned up and on the wall. Has anyone seen another 12' tall porcelain enamel Coca Cola bottle sign? This one is probably a 9.5, just a couple of bullet holes from a small caliber gun that didn't penetrate the sign- just knocked off the porcelain finish. I've had many of the 8' signs and 6' signs but never seen or heard of any other 12' x 4' signs like this one. Please let me know if you've heard of others. This one came out of the Muskegon, MI plant when it closed. I drove all the way up to northern Michigan to get it. (from San Diego, CA) Also, this one has some information on the bottom of it including AM 101. Does anyone know what this refers to or if it tell where it was made?...
Great sign. Commonly referred to as a "convex". It was manufactured by Allen-Morrison (AM) Sign Co., Lynchburg, VA., in October (10) 1951 (1). AM-101. There are several sizes ranging from 3' - 12'. I've seen a few 12-footers, but not many. And by coincidence, I'm in Michigan and considered buying this exact sign. (I would have had my ceilings been 3' higher! :0) We have a vacation home on Elk Lake, so indeed you had a long drive, but the destination was beautiful and you came home with a prize. purvis is correct, this is not porcelain-enamel, it's screen or litho print on formed metal. A super Man-tique and it looks fabulous on display at your place. Congrats!
