Another thrift shop find was this box.
I think it may be made from ebony.
The wood turning is really tight.
It sits on a turned foot and above it are a series of 27 steps.
The round finial is part of the lid and has been turned with it.
The lid has nine steps and above it a round finial handle.
Each step is .5 cm (0.2 of an inch) wide and tapers slightly inwards.
It reminds me of the Art Deco pottery pieces of Keith Murray.
I am not sure if it was for tobacco: this box is not air tight.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
It is 11 cm (4.3 inches) in diameter and 12.5 cm ( 5 inches ) tall.
There are no identifying marks.
