The "Swank" was designed by noted industrial designer Peter Muller-Munk and patented in May 1940. It has a molded Tenite plastic case and a die-cast metal base. The clock on the left has a paper label on the bottom which indicates that this particular clock dates to Nov. 1957. I don't think that these were manufactured much beyond that date. The case is a deep marbleized black cherry color and the metal base is finished with gold tinted laquer.
The ivory colored clock on the right is a very early Swank, with a June 1940 date stamp on its base. Unlike the later version, the metal base is brass plated and it's inscribed 'The Pennwood Co.' rather than 'Pennwood- Numechron.' It also sports Pennwood's pre-WW II numeral style and has an early enclosed motor. Amazing lines on these Swanks! To my mind, one of the sexiest Streamlined clock cases.
